National Prosthodontist Awareness Month

Apr 10 2013

The American College of Prosthodontist advocates for the valuable role that prosthodontists play on the dental team.  National Prosthodontics Awareness Week (April 7-13, 2013) focuses on raising public awareness about the critical importance of a healthy mouth.

The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty association whose membership is based solely on education credentials.  A prosthodontist is a dentist, who specializes in the esthetic restoration and replacement of teeth, receive additional years of advanced training after dental school, and restores optimum appearance and chewing function.  The training includes review of the literature, lectures, treatment of patients and laboratory experience in fabricating restorations.

Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialities recognized by the American Dental Association.  Graduate programs in prosthodontics include classroom lectures and seminars, laboratory and clinical training in esthetics/cosmetic crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and removable partial dentures, dental implants, TMD-jaw joint problems, traumatic injuries to the mouth’s structures, congenital or birth anomalies to teeth, snoring, sleep disorders, and oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care.  Prosthdontists are masters of complete oral rehabilitation.

I am proud to be a prosthodontist.
